IN SITU REMEDIATION
Where excavation and ex-situ treatment is not feasible or
is too costly due to the presence of buildings, structures or other
confinements, in-situ treatment approaches are undertaken.
In most cases, a single remediation process will not address the
problem of contamination in the ground under structures and buildings.
This is because contamination may be present in several forms including
vapour, aqueous and free phase, and absorbed to the soil matrix.
ARC Geobac's approach to in-situ remediation is governed by process
effectiveness, efficiency and economics. Our many years experience
has proven that a multi process approach is often the best. Vapour
extraction and air sparging could be combined with bioremediation.
In-situ soil washing, which is undertaken using fully biodegradable
chemicals, also provides a food source for complimentary bioremediation.
Multiphase vacuum remediation methods are effectively used by ARC
Geobac to address several phases of contaminant occurrence at the
same time. In situ thermal volatilization, chemical oxidation as
well as the creation of natural plume controls are also used effectively
by ARC Geobac.
ARC Geobac continually reviews its in-situ systems to maintain
efficiency by changing the system according to the changes effected
in the occurrence and composition of the contaminants. Each of our
system methodologies is designed "specifically" for the
site under remediation, since "off the shelf" approaches
are often less efficient. ARC Geobac always strives for effective
remedial approaches with acceptable economics.
